Potatoes Gratin
These look a lot harder than they really are and they look like you spent all day in the kitchen…
And Oh, So Good!!!
Makes for 8 - 12 servings
Ingredients:
2 ea Garlic, cut in half
3-4 lb Potatoes, peeled and sliced very thin (in mandolin)
1 Tbsp Butter
2 ea Shallot, Minced
1.5 C Heavy Cream
1 Tbsp Salt
½ Tbsp White Pepper
1 Tbsp Thyme, Fresh and chopped
2 oz Gruyere Cheese, grated or shredded
Instruction:
Preheat oven at 350 F.
In a round or oval oven safe baking pan, rub all sides and bottom with Garlic.
Slice potatoes in a mandoline, place potato slices on the sides of the dish and line them with a half inch separation, creating like a fan.
Go round and around clockwise until filled all the way to the center
In a small saucepan melt butter and add garlic pieces, once it flavors the butter, take garlic out. (You can prepare this next 2 steps ahead of time and heat the sauce at the last minute).
Add shallots to the butter, saute a minute or so, add heavy cream, Salt and Pepper, Thyme and cook a couple minutes. Take off heat.
Add gruyere to the mixture and drizzle over potatoes until all is covered and is soaked and sucked between the layers.
Bake for 40- 45 min or until potatoes are soft and bubbly.
